The Living room Gallery
celebrating art and artists in our community at the
Tualatin Public Library

In 2012, the Community Services Department of the City of Tualatin in conjunction with the Tualatin Arts Advisory Committee decided to expand its promotion of arts in the community by providing a new opportunity for visual artists to display their work in public buildings. The new LIVING ROOM GALLERY at the Tualatin Public Library represents the first new public space to get art.

Purpose
The purpose of THE LIVING ROOM GALLERY is to support and encourage the pursuit and appreciation of creativity by displaying the finest examples of artwork created in and around our community. It provides an opportunity to honor and celebrate cultural aspects of our community.

Exhibit Space
THE LIVING ROOM GALLERY is part of the central feature space of the newly remodeled Tualatin Public Library. This is a large but cozy room with a huge central fireplace and comfortable chairs and tables for lounging and reading. The space is surrounded by large magazine racks above which is the gallery space. The space can accommodate 10-18 medium to large paintings (30 inches being a maximum framed height.)

Solo Exhibits for 8 Week Display Periods
For most of the year, artists will be featured in solo exhibits for an 8-week long display period. An Artist Statement & Biography will be posted along with the art which will be drafted by the artist and edited and graphic designed for the pop up stand by Becky Savino at Community Services. Individual placards to be prepared by the artist for mounting alongside the individual works of arts describe the art and if it is available for purchase. Samples will be provided for the artist to follow. The City will take a small commission on sold art which will go back into funding arts programs for the community. This will be described in a standard artist contract.  Everyone who comes into the Library will get to see your work and you may even get publicity in the community newspaper.

Acceptance for Display
Artists who are interested in participating in this program will go through a process of sharing samples their work for jury. Five JPGs of current work can be sent via email to the Volunteer Program Coordinator and Gallerist, Angela Wrahtz, for review. Upon acceptance, the Ms. Wrahtz will work with the artist on which specific pieces will be used for the display. The artist will ultimately submit an “Art Inventory” of works to be included in the solo show. The artist will also be offered a standard artist contract with the City. (Sample agreements will be available shortly at this for viewing; at this time the City has still not finalized a contract for use with artists.) The Coordinator will discuss/offer display periods to find an 8 week period that is mutually agreeable. Display contract will be sent for signing and once the agreement is signed and returned, the artist will be placed into the calendar.

Installation of Artwork
Artists bring their art for hanging on the first of the month (or the first Monday) at the beginning of their display period (unless advised otherwise) from 8:00 am to 10:30 am (before the Library opens to the public) and the artist must be available to pick up art when it is taken down on the last day of the display period which is the install date for the next artist. Ms. Wrahtz will confirm dates and times with the artist in advance of set up and breakdown.
